This year we also are carrying Olena otherwise known as Turmeric .
Thai Ginger also known as Galangal , a big thick variety with an extra spicy flavor.

Waialeale Kava Source

Oshi Grady brings us Kava grown on his families farm in Fiji.
He is looking for land to grow more here on Kauai.

Here he inspects a plant I started from some Hawaiian variety cuttings. Kava is a pretty plant and if given a chance will really take off.

First Cacao Pods

A friend told me the other day that some of the cacao trees I had given him about 7 years ago had pods. I was a little irked as my trees hadn't, or so I thought until I went out and cleared the vines and weeds and then lo and behold there they were.

Kailani Farms

Yesterday afternoon Phil Davies himself delivered his organic greens.
We're lucky to live about 3 miles from one of Kauai's top producers. His greens are much sought after and always sell out.

Jakfruit

Today I checked out the Jakfruit tree right next to the stand. It volunteered about 15 years ago and seems to like it where it is. Very productive, its flowering now with fruit still on the tree. One interesting quality of the Jakfruit is cauliflory, that is fruit is born directly from the branch. This makes sense as some of the fruits can be over 30 pounds!

Kauai Fungi

Philly White bringing in some fresh Kauai Fungi
These Pink Oyster Mushrooms are delicious.
Great in stir fry or sauteed with steaming greens. We're still finding ways to prepare them.
Plus they're being grown just down the road!

Durian

I've been getting a few durian lately and keeping them all for myself. Interesting to taste the range of flavors between trees and degree of ripeness. I'm planting the seeds.
